Nina was encouraged to take piano lessons from a young age. At home, the Great American Songbook was her Top 40, sung by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Andy Williams, Barbra Streisand, Jack Jones, Doris Day, Frank Sinatra, the Four Freshmen, Peggy Lee and Tony Bennett. Growing up in the 60’s and 70’s, groups like the Beatles, Herman’s Hermits and Simon and Garfunkel were part of the soundtrack of her adolescent years. She bought LP’s by James Taylor, Carol King, Carly Simon, Billy Joel and Jose Felicino. Her father, Reuben Solomon, played in classical as well as jazz settings, “the most lyrical clarinet I have ever heard”. Filling in for the pianist in her father’s band was her first gig.
Nina’s calling has eventually turned her attention from performing and teaching to composing.
Working with husband, producer Miles Harris, Nina offers this library of diverse music, ranging from new age style piano to pizzicato strings, bossa nova to gypsy jazz, heartfelt love songs to Klezmer. Recently trips to Argentina ignited a passion for tango. Unashamedly romantic, her music is woven from the diverse threads of her musical journey.
